6. The Nastiest Toilet In The WorldThe Nastiest Toilet in the world found at Mount Elbrus, Russia

Okay so not all of the bathrooms out there are the world’s best toilets. In fact, there is one located at Mount Elbrus in Russia that has the distinction of being known as the world’s nastiest. Located about 12,139 feet high on Mount Elbrus, this toilet is basically a pit of stench with no way to wash your hands after. We strongly recommend you bring your own disinfectant or antibacterial soap! A sign from Etsy with Bathroom Humor that says "Amazing Experience!" would Poop Here Again and 5 stars

7. The World’s Most Beautiful Toilet In The WorldThe Uredd Rest Stop in Norway is considered the most beautiful toilet in the world

Located on what is known as the Norwegian Scenic Route, the Uredd Rest Stop in Norway is considered the most beautiful toilet in the world! Named after the Norwegian “Uredd” submarine from World War II, the rest stop was redesigned in a minimalistic style to entice people to stop and take in the views. But if you can hold it, the best time to visit this amazing toilet is at night when the frosted glass seems to glow in the dark.

8. The Most Transparent Toilet In The WorldThe Colorful yet Transparent Tokyo Toilet Project

For those of you who like to cater to your inner exhibitionist, then you will definitely want to test your boundaries at the public toilets in Tokyo! Created by the Tokyo Toilet Project, these colorful yet clear toilets are truly for the courageous. But don’t fret. Even if you can’t hold it any longer and really need to go, you won’t be advertising your goods. 9. The Tallest Outhouse In The WorldThe 2 Story Outhouse at Cedar Lake in Michigan is the Tallest Toilet in the World

When we used to go to summer camp, our parents always recommended that we try our best to get the top bunk! There is nothing worse than being “down stream” of other people’s body issues. So, you can only imagine which floor you would rather use at the 2 Story Outhouse at Cedar Lake in Michigan! Built in 1875, one theory is that this strange outhouse was once connected to a hotel or boarding house. But whatever reason it was built, you may want to avoid the bottom toilets no matter how bad you have to go!

10. The Best Loo With A ViewA Camper Toilet along the Copper Ridge in North Cascades, Washington, USA is one of the best toilets in the world for the view alone

If you ever head to the state of Washington for a backpacking adventure, then there is no doubt that you will want to check out North Cascades National Park. That is because this hike is loaded with amazing views of deep green canyons and gorgeous snow covered peaks. But perhaps one of the best highlights is to spend a night camping beneath the Sahale Glacier! Now of course you can always find a nice spot in the woods to go. But if you want to enjoy the views while doing number 2, find one of wooden toilets along Copper Ridge.

11. The Strangest Toilets In The WorldThe Egg Pod Bathrooms in London are shaped like Eggs beneath a multicolored stained glass roof

Afternoon tea is perhaps a quintessential bucket list experience when visiting the United Kingdom. But if you want to liven your formal experience up, perhaps consider making reservations at Sketch London. This funky yet quite fancy restaurant makes you feel like you are dining in an art gallery as the walls are adorned with countless pieces of art. But when the tea runs through you, be prepared for one of the strangest toilets in the world. The bathrooms are filled with toilets shaped like Eggs all beneath a multicolored stained glass roof. Now if movies ever taught us anything, we all know to beware of the Pod People! But when you got to go, you got to go, right?

12. The Most Shipwrecked Toilet In The WorldToilet Island in the Caribbean Sea off Placencia, Belize is the most remote place to use the bathroom

Whenever you watch movies like Castaway, Swiss Family Robinson, or Robinson Crusoe, no one ever talks about how they survived without a bathroom or toilet paper for that matter. But no need to worry if you are lost at sea in the Caribbean Sea! All you have to do is find Toilet Island off the coast of Belize. This small island a lone bathroom with an actual flushing toilet. But don’t stay too long because we aren’t sure how often they restock the toilet paper and those palm tree leaves look a little rough!

13. The Most Musical Toilets In The WorldThe Tuba Urinals in Germany are actual musical tubas you pee into

So I am not going to lie, we wish the Golden Stars Inn in Freiburg, Germany was using Saxophones to pee in cause Saxophones suck! But we do admire their creativity in repurposing these old German Tubas as urinals! Now as a classically trained French Horn player, I know a little bit about emptying out the pipes and spit valves. So heed my advice, be wary of where you put your shoes. Also, fair warning, these don’t actually make music when using them, so if you hear beautiful music, please consult a doctor immediately!

If you are having any issues going, perhaps the toilet at the Kara-Tyurek weather station in Siberia can help get the proverbial juices flowing. Knowing that the only way to leave this remote destination is to catch helicopter that only comes once a month may help you hurry up!

    1. Fun read. You left off the best toilets at a convenience store. Buc-ees, just ask anyone who has traveled through Texas.

      1. Oh we know about those amazing toilets at Buc-ees! We live in New Orleans but often go over to visit Darcee’s family in Mineral Wells, Texas. So on the drive along I-20 from Shreveport to Dallas, we ALWAYS stop at the Buc-ees in Terrell, Texas! They aren’t necessarily unique but there are like 100 of them and they are always super clean!

    2. Such a fun article! I think the transparent toilet would make me too nervous. The toilets at The Shard in London had a really nice view of the city, I could have just hung out in there all day lol

      1. Haha, we have heard that about the Toilets at the Shard! I don’t know how we missed out on seeing them but I guess we have another toilet to add to our bucket list!

    3. What a fun post. The toilets in the mountains are the most interesting to me. I can’t imagine having a view like that while sitting on the can! I have seen the transparent toilets in Tokyo and I have to say I was nervous to try them.

      1. Everyone is scared of the see through toilets in Tokyo! But dropping trow in the woods for all of Mother Nature & those poor woodland creatures to see and there is no issues! HAHA! I joke of course! Personally, as an avid outdoorsman, I agree those Loos with a View or Outdoor Outhouses beneath the Mountain views are probably some of our favorite as well.

    4. I think number 1, 10, and 14 can be also the World’s Nastiest toilet. Haha.. Number 13 looks cool, and I would like to experience number 8. I heard there’s something similar to this about a couple of hours from where I live.

      1. I agree Umiko, the World’s Largest Restroom is in Chong Qing, China isn’t very pretty looking to me either though they do claim to have TVs inside their toilet stalls. So maybe just the outdoor urinals with their open crocodile mouths or busts of a woman resembling the Virgin Mary that are kind of funky.

    5. Wow that is an unusual collection. I find the Namibia toilet most fascinating. Perfect view for nature’s call! Yes, have to agree Norway’s toilet is truly beautiful.

      1. Yeah, Indrani, I have to agree with you! There is something quite peaceful about the Wildest Bathroom In the World! I mean with a title like that you would assume there would be a college party going on. But there is something serene about staring out at the safari planes while mounted atop one’s throne!

    6. This is a very unusual topic! I think I would go for the best in Norway! I can see why it was rated as such.

      1. Who would have thought that the one thing that we all use everyday…the most standard & typical item in most of our lives…would be such a bizarre & fun Bucket List Destination! haha. Ah yes, the good old Toilet, Loo, Throne, or whatever you call it!
I agree though Renee, just from the looks alone it is easy to see why the restroom in Norway was considered the Best Toilet in the World by multiple Travel Magazines, Agencies, & online organizations!

    7. What a fun article! One can only hope to find themselves in need of such characteristic facilities in their travels. Thanks for sharing!

      1. Can you imagine coming home from an epic bucket list trip Kathryn only to show slides & talk about one of the best toilets in the world?? haha!

    8. how fun! I love the approach. I once visited toilet with transparent from one side glass as a wall and it actually wasn’t as odd as I thought it would

    9. This is a unique article. Interesting. Never thought anything like this would even exist. And the last picture really got me. Haha. Thanks for sharing!

      1. No problem! I mean we all gotta go sometime right? I agree with you though, that toilet at the Kara-Tyurek weather station in Siberia is definitely one of the more Extreme Toilets in the World!

    10. thanks for sharing this, I had an interesting read about the toilets around the globe. cheers, sienny

    11. When I went to another country, I learned that there were different toilets than the normal ones you see in the States. This article is really interesting as you highlighted many interesting toliets.

      1. Yeah, who would have thought that something as simple and well used as a toilet would be so drastically different all around the world. I mean for the most part, refrigerators, telephones, and cars are all pretty standard. So why are toilets in and around the world so very different?

    12. I will do a google search on the transparent toilet, I really want to know how they do it that it’s transparent yet when someone gets inside it becomes blurry. I don’t think I can even go inside, I would think someone is watching me.lol

      1. haha, But if you gotta go, YOU GOTTA GO! Right? I mean if someone really wants me take care of my business in The Most Transparent Toilet In The World in Tokyo then who am I to deny my audience!

    13. I really dislike bathrooms so I’d never look into this, so thanks for sharing this. It’s interesting!

      1. Haha, well I hope I didn’t scar you with any of these quirky toilets in the world that we found. I know they can be gross at times but would you even consider visiting the Uredd Rest Stop in Norway? It is considered the most beautiful toilet in the world!

    14. That was a fun article to read!
I never thought toilets would inspire one research travel destinations, but these are definitely worth visiting, whether we need to go, or just want to go.

      1. Haha, right? I mean we all check out the same old same old things when we travel and there isnt anything really wrong with that. But sometimes you just want to see something totally bizarre like #13. The Most Musical Toilets In The World where you get to pee in a real life TUBA!

    15. This is the funniest article that I have ever read! The most basic toilets we have seen were in Russia. One of them was an outhouse, like on your photo, but with 5 or 6 holes. It was separated for men and women by a wall. The most luxurious and expensive toilet was in Pushkin, Russia between the Catherine Palace and the Alexander Palace. The most easy going toilet was in Amsterdam. It was a pisser in a stall without a door on one of the central streets. The funniest toilet was in Amsterdam too. The residents of the first floor were so annoyed by night party goers and revelers that they installed metal plates in every coner on their streets. These plates diverted the stream and it sprayed back onto the person peeing.

      1. Your Russian outhouses sound very much like our squat toilets we often used for the 6 weeks we were in India. But I had no idea about the most luxurious and expensive toilet was in Pushkin, Russia between the Catherine Palace and the Alexander Palace. We may have to add this to our list for sure because Eric is kind of a Diva!!

    16. Amazing collection. The loo with the view is crazy! HAHA. The transparent one, I can definitely get used to, after I get convinced that I have no neighbors.

      1. haha, I know right! I like the See Through Toilets in Tokyo too. But I don’t know if I trust the technology to shade me when I enter…so peeping tom’s beware!

    17. Didn’t expect that i would love this blog post so much! Hahaha i personally find toilet fascinating lol hahah

      1. Haha, I know right?!! I mean who would ever think the bathroom is a must see destination while traveling but we found some of the best toilets in the world that definitely are bizarre, neat, artistic, and some a little gross. But all need of these Amazing Toilets around the world need to be on your bucket list for sure!

    18. I never would have thought that there are many toilet stories worst from where I live. I am amused with some.

    19. I never would have thought that there are many toilet stories worst from where I live. I am amused with some. I would love to go to the no. 14.

      1. Oh yeah? you are down with checking out The Most Extreme Toilet In The World at the Kara-Tyurek weather station in Siberia? Although it looks scary hanging off the ledge, I am more concerned with how COLD it would be in Siberia having to use that outdoor toilet! haha

    20. I have to admit, I have never really thought of there being so many different toilets around the world. Some of them are cool, evern interesting, and others scary.

    21. What a cool post! There is a place called Toilet Island? I would love to see that!

      1. haha, sure is! Can you imagine a whole beautiful island in the Caribbean with just one small building on it that is basically a restroom with a working flush toilet? haha

    22. It’s funny to realize that we don’t go checking on toilets when we travel, but it is indeed one of the most essential things that we have to consider. Call of nature happens any time. This was such a fun list. From the most elegant, to the weirdest, to the worst types. I still prefer my toilet at home, or the ones in the hotels.

      1. Haha, I know a few friends who are like you who HATE using public toilets. Even the one in Norway would be too much for them to handle because they can only use their own toilet at home!

    23. This is such an amazing concept post Eric , totally loved it. The one in Japan and the one in Norway, now I would love to use them

    24. This is one of the most entertaining posts I read in a long time! Love all the pictures of the different toilets!

      1. Thanks! Nothing like taking pictures of exotic thrones from around the world. Luckily we captured toilets from around the world without people using them.

    25. This is definitely a fun post, I enjoyed reading every information in it. Public toilets can be dreadful at times lol

      1. There is no doubt that a public toilet, especially the restrooms or pit stops you come upon while taking a road trip can be a bit scary

    26. Very interesting post as people never write about the most important thing in life. That musical toilet is really funny. Even the most extreme toilet is like an adventure doing while attending the most important nature call.

      1. Haha, thanks Yukti. Yeah, I think the most Extreme Toilet in the world is interesting as well. Don’t get me wrong, if I have to go I am going in the woods down the mountain instead of inside that restroom. But it is definitely worth looking at from a distance and maybe while wearing a hazmat safety suit.

    27. This list made me laugh! The toilets at Sketch London definitely would catch me off guard, and as someone who loved orchestra in high school and college, I’m just not sure how I feel about tubas being repurposed as urinals! It’s a creative idea, I’ll at least give them that!

      1. Haha, what did you play in the Orchestra? I was a French Hornist so though I wish they had used Saxaphones, I don’t mind the Tubas, haha! Yeah those Egg Pod toilets at Sketch London are totally bizarre to me too! I don’t know if I would want to use them!

    28. This is the best post I’ve read in a long time! I’ll have to share this around! I think, at times, the bathroom shared by my 3 teenage boys could rival the one in Russia 😂

      1. haha, that is way too funny and a little gross Chantelle! I bet your boys would love exploring all these bizarre toilets around the world if they are experts though! 😁

    29. Ha, I recognized the toilet in Belize! 🙂
I remember being in a restroom in Sydney with a fantastic city view and the ancient hole-in-the-castle-floor-so-you-can-crap-on-your-enemies at Heidelberg castle in Germany.
And the transparent Tokyo toilets – unfortunately they were installed after we visited.

      1. Stinks or maybe it doesnt that you missed out on the See through toilets in Tokyo. I love the whole ancient hole-in-the-castle-floor-so-you-can-crap-on-your-enemies at Heidelberg castle in Germany! People are so funny sometimes. There are so many cool toilets around the world for sure!

    30. Lol this made me smile! I have a few posts about the best loos with views, so this is close to my heart!

I have to say, the view from the nastiest toilet in the world is incredible! If you can hold your nose, it would totally be worth it!

For extra loos to add to your list…I am a fan of the toilets in Germany that automatically clean the seat after each visitor…OR the magical toilets in Japan with their warm seats, washlets and music to hide any sounds you make..,

      1. You had me at butt warming toilets in Japan!! haha, who doesnt love a good Loo with a View. I am not going to lie, I have never, Ever found an outhouse or camper box seat ever that wasnt nasty. But if you are lucky enough to find one that is relatively clean like after a rain, then the views are always worth it.

    31. On a random hike somewhere in Norway I found the coolest bathroom. It was perched over a waterfall and had a clear floor and wall!

      1. So do you think it was the Uredd Rest Stop in Norway? Because if you look it is considered the World’s Most Beautiful Toilet In The World! So maybe you saw the Best & didnt even know it!

    32. The best toilet I have been to is at Tortilla Flat on the Apache Trail east of Phoenix. It is a town of 6 with a quaint restaurant and country store. At the restrooms you can turn into a saloon girl with doors painted either voluptuous bodies of western ladies.

      1. That is awesome! I had never heard of Tortilla Flat but if we are ever driving in that area we will definitely have to check out these unique toilets. How fun that they turn you into Saloon Girls. I wonder what they do for the guys…do they make us look like cowboys?

    33. What a fun post Eric! You’ve given me a challenging bucket list idea here 😀 The toilet in Norway is beautiful, probably too nice to use! The outdoor one in Denali is very minimalist chic!

      1. Thanks, who would have thought that a Loo with a View would be something or some place you would want to add to your bucket list! I agree that the Norway Bathroom looks like it should be the best toilet in the world. But for me, I think I prefer the different outdoor toilets with views of mountains or the African plains too!

    34. WOW! This is quite interesting. I never came across such a post. At first, It doesn’t seem like a topic to write much about but your post proved me wrong haha. That musical toilet was too funny!

      1. haha, yeah, who would ever travel anywhere in the world just to use the toilet? I mean there aren’t many Toilet Tour Guides or Bathroom Sherpas out there! But I guess you can find beauty and bizarre in anything, haha!

    35. Haha. This post gave me a good laugh. It took me a minute to get your saxophone dig. 😉 And holy cow that transparent toilet is REALLY transparent. Yikes!

    36. What an interesting collection of toilets from around the world. I think I would like to see the most beautiful one in the Uredd Rest Stop in Norway and see why it was voted the best. But I would pass on the most transparent one in Tokyo. I must admit that the fancy toilets in China and Japan have forever spoiled me with the multitude of functions they provide. Even if you do sometimes need an instruction manual.

      1. Yeah, the ones in South East Asia were a bit confusing to me at first too. But I think I prefer them sometimes cause they were quite functional and I always felt clean!
