The big apple is by far one of the most popular places for short visits for people all over the world. This city is full of shops, characters, culture and a bustling atmosphere. Ohh wow! Thanks for this list! Miami sounds great! The beach here looks so perfect, and a perfect way to relax with the family for some short weekend vacation.
Oh, I love taking weekend breaks…its right up in my wheelhouse! I love weekend breaks for Canada but since the USA is our only neighbor a weekend trip to the states is perfect too. Being from Toronto I get to hit up NYC as its only an hour and a half flight away. San Francisco, Washington DC and Miami are soooo on high on my list for my next short trips!!!
I love all the cities mentioned, especially DC. I’ve lived here now for almost six years and it is amazing to see how much is there to do here! I stay quite busy because of my job and I still haven’t seen it all!
These are fabulous weekend trip ideas – I agree that there are so many incredible places and cities to explore in the US, and you can pack so much into a short weekend. NYC is probably my favorite, but San Fran is a pretty close contender!
These are great city getaways in the US! D.C. would be my top choice just because there’s fonmich to see there for free! Chicago is my favorite US big city though. There are also some great getaways for nature-lovers/City combos like Seattle and Asheville! The US is just so big. Options seem to be unlimited!
Having been to most of these, I would have to agree that they make good destinations if given just a weekend’s amount of time. At least assuming that you’re already on the same coast, because flying across the country will eat up most of a day. Direct flights make it more doable though! I haven’t been to Miami yet, but renting a yacht sounds like it could be a lot of fun!
Great list! Planning a long weekend to Washington DC with the family to sample some of the great free museums there!
What a fun list of weekend trips! I was in Miami this past week and loved what it has to offer and need to plan a return visit. Chicago, what can I say? The midwest is my home territory and I love a weekend in the Windy City~ there is so much to offer.. have you been?
You’re not wrong in saying the USA is a big country – I want to do a big trip around the USA at some point, and I have a folder of places I want to visit and all the ones you’ve listed are on there but San Diego is one I’m really looking forward to, I heard so many good things about it and I have a friend who’s recently moved there and can’t say enough good things about it 😀
Great list! I’ve been to most of these spots, but still trying to spend a weekend in Miami sometime soon. Chicago would be another good one to add, especially in summer — lots of music festivals and great architecture to explore, plus cheap flights from much of the rest of the country.
These are great recommendations for a weekend or quick trip. Much love to Santa Monica beach. I’ll prefer going to the beach. 🙂

Having grown up on the west coast, I spent plenty of time in San Diego, Santa Monica and San Francisco, so someday I’ll have to return to the US and explore New York, D.C. and Miami. I almost feel ashamed I never made it to those cities. They do look like really nice weekend destinations, although flights across the country can be so expensive…
I have completed the list +Ohio. I used to live in Ohio and San Diego too. Right now we are living in Orlando and looking to make more weekend trips to Miami. So many weekend trips to choose from. Next weekend, we’re heading to Tampa for the world’s largest Pirate Party.
I have been to all of the listed places and they make fine weekend visit possibilities. So many other places do, also. USA is so grand, allow years to see it all.
Well, the only one I’ve visited (and I used to go quite regularly for the weekend when I was in my 30s) is NYC. But, I’d love to visit the rest of them, especially San Francisco and Washington.
Good to see California is well represented in here! I love living in here because the weekend options are endless. I am planning on hitting several spots I have not been this year. #WeekendWanderlust
Oh to live in the US and be able to take such weekend breaks, how lovely! Then again, I could make you a pretty impressive European weekend break list 😉
#WeekendWanderlust
I’ve been to all of those cities, but not for a long time. It is a good reminder for those of us who live in North America that there are some fantastic “local” type of trips that we can take and have a fantastic time. We don’t have to fly 24 hours to go to some amazing theatre, museums or even beaches. Thanks!
Great blog! I go to NYC for weekend trips all of the time. Definitely, something everyone should experience.
What a great list! We’ve been to all the places you’ve mentionned here and love all these cities. But San Francisco is our absolute favorites!
I have always wanted to go to New York and to San Francisco but living in Europe it takes longer to reach, so a weekend won’t really be enough. These are all great travel suggestions in the States though! 🙂
I’ve taken many of the ones you listed as weekend trips and couldn’t agree more – they are all perfect. I haven’t been to San Diego, but definitely want to go there soon too. Great ideas!
Love this list, plan on visiting many of these places! I live like 3 hrs from New York City! But i really would like to go to SanFran for the architecture
Nice list! We have a goal to explore San Francisco in 2018. We’re always looking for places that will make a fun 2-3 day trip.
Nice! That was really a fun weekend indeed. The beaches were really great.
More power to your blog.
Love DC and San Diego!! I’ll have to check out some of the others!!
Love these weekend getaways. We go to Mississippi or Florida to the beach.
I have only visited one of those cities. I need to get a move on!
You forgot to add your lovely New Orleans to the list though! That is one of my favorite places to visit 🙂
Good list. Two down and four to go for me!
#WeekendWanderlust
We do many of our trips as weekends to condense vacation days and work around holidays. Great list. Looking forward to a weekend trip to San Diego to visit family this spring.
Those are some great recommendations. Got to visit NYC, Santa Monica and Miami so far. 😀 #WeekendWanderlust
This is a great list. We loved DC and we’re heading to San Diego next month for a few days. I’d also add that Chicago also makes a great weekend trip or extended vacation. #weekendwanderlust
