The Best Camping Fridge for Your Next Outdoor Adventure
There is no doubt that camping or visiting a National Park is on the rise in recent years. Perhaps, it’s because we are finally learning about their hidden beauty and fun adventure activities. I mean with all the things to do in Yellowstone, you could have an entire bucket list category for that park alone! Couple that with the growing need for more cost effective family adventures, it all makes sense.
But how do you financially handle an extended adventure camping in the great outdoors?
In general costs such as gas, park entrance fees, or lodging are for the most part, out of our control. But one of the biggest costs you can manage is FOOD! Don’t get me wrong. I mean who doesn’t want to take the Jackson Hole Aerial Tram up 4,139 vertical feet to the top of the Tetons so you can enjoy waffles at Corbet’s Cabin? Of course you do, who doesn’t love Waffles? But in general, I am sure you would rather spend your money on fun outdoor adventures or smores over some greasy burger and stale fries! This is where a camping fridge comes in!

Using a Portable Refrigerator vs an Ice Cooler
We all have our trusty ice cooler from college that used to hold a case of the worst beer ever. But, you’re an adult now with a wife and kids! So, if you are hoping to feed your family during a week of hiking, swimming, and other activities, you are going to want fresh good food! Right?
That is why it makes sense to get a camping fridge freezer combo. In general you will find 3 main advantages of using a portable refrigerator over a traditional ice cooler:
- No More Lukewarm food: The challenge with a traditional ice cooler is that the coldness depreciates as soon as the ice is distributed, especially on warmer days! With a camping compression refrigerator, you can regulate the temperature with a click of the button. Plus if you don’t want your food frozen, you can utilize the fridge aspect instead.
- No More Soggy Food: I don’t know about you, but there is nothing worse than opening up an ice chest and reaching into a bucket of ice water to grab your now damp sandwich! It seems like no matter what type of Tupperware there is, inevitably, the now melted ice will find a path inside and drown my food!
- No More Ice Runs: Look we have nothing against ice. In fact some of our favorite cocktails come with ice. But when you are on vacation with your family, the last thing you want to do is leave them to make an ice run! Plus with ice melting so fast in your old cooler, it will end up depleting your wallet of all your fun money!

So whether you are plugging it into your RV 3 prong outlets or you are needing a car fridge that will plug into your cigarette lighter, BougeRV has you covered.
It can use 60 watts of energy in max mode. But if you are hoping to conserve energy, it can also easily run at 45 watts in energy saver mode. That way you won’t have to worry about draining your energy source, whether it is your car battery, a solar unit, or a generator.

I like your idea and thorough details of the fridge. It seems it is really helpful for those who go for intense camping. I do not belong to that bucket though. Of course I gained knowledge about the product.
Ever since the pandemic, I’ve had so much time off and been wanting to go camping, this is useful information thanks!
Fresh Ice is really important for me while I am camping. I agree that this BougeRV Portable Refrigerator is amazing!
Wow this is such a life saving gadget. Thanks for sharing this article 👍
This is awesome! We`d love to go camping with this fridge. i love that it uses minimal power.
This is what I need when we went camping last month. The cooler did not keep our drinks cold.
That stinks. I bet a camper fridge would definitely have worked better.
I WAANNNNNT ONE!! We drink at the basecamp whenever we climb/camp and it’s quite challenging to bring coolers as they’re bulky and uber heavy. Imagine climbing mountains with those big-butt coolers. Hahaha! Though we tried that once and we took turns in dragging the said cooler (I can fit in that cooler – I’m not kidding hahaha). Not fun at all.
After that, we’re stuck with WARM BEER or opt for the hard drinks as we don’t need to drink them cold. I don’t know about you but I am not a fan of warm beer – it tasted so weird! BougeRV Portable Refrigerator sounds like a pretty good investment and I’m quite amazed that it has a solar unit (most I’ve seen, we need to use our car batteries). I’d invest in anything that wouldn’t result in my beer getting warm.
Or I can use it when I want to self-isolate. 😁
Nothing, and I MEAN NOTHING worse than WARM BEER, haha 😁! Yeah these BougeRV Portable Refrigerators are amazing and I am like you, those solar panels are key to keeping the energy flowing and the beer cold, so win win for sure!
My mom always took a cooler whenever went on a camping trip. She would always get fresh ice every day of the trip. She will love to buy this fridge as I think it will save her money on the ice.
Yeah, don’t get us wrong, sometimes you want a little ice but not in my sandwich! Plus I hate all the nasty freezing water that I used to have to put my arm in to get something out of the ice chest. Not anymore with these cool portable car fridges
This is such a great recommendation! Using a portable camping fridge can save us a lot more money and it’s easier to bring as well.
Totally agree Alyssa. Nothing worse than having to throw food away or have to drink hot sodas, right!
Wow! A camping fridge! I’ve never heard of that. When we used to go on trips, we had a cooler and we’d put ice in it. That’s the fridge. HAHAHA.
Haha, yeah Crickette, we used to have a similar type ice chest when we were kids too. I actually have fond memories of my dad pulling it out cause that meant we were about to go on an adventure, usually to the beach! But the BougeRV Camping Fridge isnt our parents old ice chest.
I’ve never heard about that one! But seem amazing and very handy for trips! Will look more about it. Thank you for sharing!
That’s quite amazing. When I was a child, my parents wanted to explore Europe and sadly, they did it camping…I remember huge ice chests with heavy loads of either ice or those equally heavy cooling packs. Well, all that stuff lasted about two hours, then we had a chest full of very heavy water. Good times. This fridge seems to be a bit more elaborated 😉
It is definitely not our parents ice chests that is for sure! I too remember my dad having this red metal Ice Chest that probably outweighed me by 100lbs when full. I actually loved the style of it but dang it did I hate carrying it back and forth to restock the ice or dump out the 100 gallons of melted dirty FREEZING water that was drowning our food.
I was just looking for a fridge to keep in our car for when we travel with the kiddos and pup. It’s nice to be prepared (and have plenty of space) when traveling with the family.
Agreed a great camping fridge can definitely help you be prepared
Think that it is something, not even for a weekend, in which I have never tried, but it intrigues me and thanks to your suggestions I will not do anything wrong!
This sounds great! Can cook in the great outdoors and keep ingredients fresh. I am going camping soon and can’t wait!
That is awesome! We are doing a lot of outdoor adventures starting June 1st and cant wait also! Just make sure you are prepared with the right gear and the rest with all be fun in the sun!
This sounds like a good investment. Because you can re-use the fridge for your next outdoor adventure. Here’s to more camping and outdoor activities.
Agreed. I tend to be a bit frugal but there is nothing better than finding a great quality product that is functional, efficient, and overall sturdy! Plus if it helps me get outdoors more to collect some Vitamin D and have some epic bucket list adventures….WINNING!!
It looks like a good product to have to enjoy the camping vacay. It might be my next purchase, summer is almost here and I need some stuff lol – Paolo
Awesome. Yeah I feel like we are scrambling to make sure all of our gear is set for the various type of trips we are going to be taking this late spring and summer! But one thing is for sure we are set with cold drinks and keeping our steaks fresh cause this BougeRV Portable Refrigerator is AMAZEBALLS!
