The perfect summer weather at Uluru Rock in Australia in December

What is the weather like in Australia in December?

If you prefer to see Jolly old St. Nick in board shorts and a tshirt rather than an overcoat and snow boots, then it makes sense to head to Australia in December! Being in southern hemisphere, December is the start of their summer so it is not super hot just yet. However, remember that Australia is a large country almost the size of the continental United States. So be prepared for different temperatures depending on if you are in the north, the South, or inland.

Since most people have it on their bucket list to take a road trip in Australia, chances are you will be cruising along the east coast.  In December, if you start in the middle at Sydney, you will have temperatures averaging 79°F (26°C) with maybe 3″ of rain. 1. It’s such a unique article. Never thought there are summer destinations that you can visit every month of the year. You have put lot of thought into the article.

  2. I love winter travel, but it’s great to get away and experience the sun and adventure activities that only summer can offer. What a great list of getaways to keep that summer travel going all-year-round.

  3. As much as I curse the snow, ice, and below-freezing temperatures of the northeast, they make me appreciate spring and fall so much more. Not much of a summer person though.

  4. Thankfully we are having a gorgeous Indian summer here in New England with all the fall colors, but also 70-degree temps. I love to leave New England in February, as I hate the cold. I was just talking to my dad about spending a week in Mexico, a bit close to your recommendation of South America!

  5. so many great topics & travels def want to go to India in the south! I ve gone to the north! Did New Orleans recently! & Peru is def on the list!

Got to go to Morocco for a day but def want to go back for longer!

  6. A warm holiday getaway sounds so wonderful right now, especially with winter sneaking up on us so fast! I feel like it dropped 40 degrees over night here – we are going to Africa soon and I can’t wait to feel the warmth of the sun again! xo -Kam

  7. A very positive list full of optimism. However, May in Peru….according to my experience, this might be a bit late – and July in Spain….you certainly won’t be freezing 😀
Anyway, every time I feel down because the weather is not nice and I cannot leave, I’ll check this list 🙂

  8. Wow this so well categorised. The theme is excellent. January in India is definitely pleasant. I wish to chase Spring or Autumn though. 🙂 Lot of colorful photo opportunities then.

  9. Very interesting summer roundup, Eric! I never thought of chasing summer around the world. That’s because I live in Southern California where we get 360 sunny days a year and an average temperature of 68º-70º F. It can’t get more “summer” than this, hahaha!

  10. My daughter went around India last January and loved it. She found it a bit too hot in places though. As you said, India’s big enough that it definitely depends where you are. I’m a big summer fan, so typically I travel in New Zealand’s winter season (June-August) and then stay from November to February to enjoy the mild summer.

  11. I love this creative idea for a post! I like you would be happy to have tropical weather all year round. When I booked my recent trip to Australia in August, I had sort of forgotten that it would be right in the middle of winter… luckily, I still got mostly sun. However, I’m sure it’s lovely in December as you mention!

  12. I’m all about following summer! We left NZ and Aus just as winter was hitting to head back home to the UK for the “summer!” and now it’s over we’re heading back down under for a few months before moving on to Asia! I just love the summer!!

  13. This is such a great post!! So many people want to visit a destination when its warm but they also want a winter break. Our winter is from November to February and I’d love to explore the beaches of Thailand and Kruger Park in South Africa. Both would be a heavenly winter break!

  14. I love the fact that you have put a list together of places to go to if you want to have summer all year round. I’m original from Australia so I definitely know how hot it can get in summer especially in December. I do like the idea of going to March – Colombia in March and then maybe pop over to Peru in May.

  15. I’m such a summer chaser! I’ve only seen snow 4 times in my life and two of those times were during summer, (thank you Kazakhstan and Canada!)

Having lived in both Perth and Yulara, the town near Uluru, I can say that December temperatures get much higher! Christmas Day in Perth is regularly above 35 degrees.

  16. I’m summer fan and if I could travel the world for a year this would be my list to follow.

Goa is good but you have to visit the white sandy beaches of Kerala – there is a reason they call it god’s own country!

  17. In January, when I am absolutely tired of the snow, ice, and freezing cold weather in the northern US, I am for sure going to reference this list and take a vacation to somewhere warm!

  18. This is a great list of Summer hotspots to chase. I love all the helpful details you’ve included and festivals too. Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia are the places to go for year round Summers, if you like humid weather, that is.

  19. Love this post! A great little collection to have in mind when chasing the sun. In January its summer in Patagonia too and the best time to go!! 😉

  20. Australia in December will surely be a great place to visit for me as I love summers and I avoid winter. Also, Morocco in June is another great idea. Actually, both June and December are my yearly holidays. Hence your list is very useful for me to decide on next year’s places where I would like to stick to the warmer weather.

  21. I live in DC and by August, I’m ready to throw summer out the window haha. But by January, I want it back!! This is definitely a list packed but places I’d love to go to. Australia in December would be incredible!

    1. Our family lives in Fairfax Virginia so we understand, though I have to say your summers are nothing compared to ours in New Orleans. Every time I go visit my mom at Christmas though I hate the cold, So maybe we should go visit santa down under together?

  22. Well, typing here in Brisbane, Australia and it’s already heating up. I love summer and December is perfect in Australia- beach, pool, cold beers. And yes Woodford Folk Festival is epic!

Not a lot of rain this year in Australia though so terrible drought in many places and the fire season ahead does not bode well. Fingers crossed for lots of wet stuff fast!

  23. Great Post! I live n Texas and the summers are very hot, I am looking for winter right now. I know by the middle of winter I will be looking for warmer weather. The Andes Mountains in central Colombia, Bogota looks like the perfect mountain getaway.

  24. Great idea to inspire us all with endless summer destinations. I was hoping you’d name Costa Rica for November, because that’s where I’m headed next (for my first time), and I’m hoping we’re getting the timing right. Can’t wait to enjoy the beaches!

    1. Being so close to the equator and with hurricane season ending at the beginning of November, I’m sure the weather in Costa Rica in November will be amazing

  25. Such an expansive list! So many seasons and so many places…Not enough time, lol! I’ve been to most of the places mentioned but not at those specific months. If I have to pick, I’ll take South Africa on February and call it a year 🙂

  26. I just love this post, right from the beginning with the quote from C. Web! I read with great interest as I have been, for example, in Colombia in February enjoying the summer weather and then returned to snow in Canada. Bad decision. I also have noted your section on Morocco as I am planning to be there in the spring of 2020.

  27. I love this post so much, as it is one day my dream to have endless summers (I hate the cold)! Goa in January sounds perfect – especially the 32c at the beach. I visited New Orleans in May and it was a bit hot, so April would be perfect!

    1. You came to know Orleans in May and you didn’t visit us? Haha, yeah in May it and start getting a little steamy So if you’re not used to minute I it can feel pretty warm.

  28. A post we can learn from. Is summer though your favorite season? Mine is winter but too bad we only have 2 seasons in our home country haha!

  29. We’re kindred spirits because this fall is getting me so gloomy and it’s not even that cold yet. Ugh. I so wanna do South America even though my spirit ways Seychelles or Zanzibar. Alas, my pocket does not.

  30. This is a great post that I have saved. We often travel to find summer. So this guide will help us to find it year round. It was good to see a list of festivals at the matching times of year. We have visited many spots on this list. But it was great to know when to visit Morocco. We were delighted when we found you could still swim in the sea in the south of Italy in October! Now I can start to plan for 2020.

  31. Can’t beat this list. Well done and great to read as I contemplate the upcoming winter season. I do chase the sun as well and I’m tempted by both India and Australia, two countries I’ve never been to. I love all the activities you’ve highlighted in each one. Something to really consider for the upcoming months. Cheers.

  32. Australia has been on my bucketlist for forever, but it’s such a huge place I’ve never been able to pin down when the best time to go is. The outback and Alice Springs would be my main goal but I wouldn’t say no to some Australian beach exploring too! Thanks for the great tips, December it is!

  33. I live in Poland and I regret that summer is so short here. That’s why I’m doing everything to extend it a bit. I usually go on my vacation in early spring and autumn. Thanks to this, when it is still cold in Poland, I am sunbathing on the beach, and now when the nights are freezing cold in my hometown I was kayaking on the Adriatic Sea, in Croatia. But my dream is to go somewhere in January when I have a birthday and drink drinks on the beach. India would be cool, I’ve never been there before and I love Indian food.

  34. No traveler can say that they are tied up because of travelling in winter because summer destinations are still there. I wanna visit Italy and Morocco soon! And I officially welcome all escaping winter to Kenya. In this low season, the beaches are always so good.

    1. Oh wow, sign us up to visit you in Kenya for sure. The more I learn about Kenya the more it climbs higher up the bucket list project! Such an amazing country you live in.

  35. Perfect lists! How I wish I have a chance to visit these places! All of these places are beautiful and perfect for a summer vacation.

  36. This is a good list. Here in the Philippines we only have 2 seasons; the dry and wet seasons. The sun is shining here most of the time. Dry season here is from December to May and the wet season is from June to November.

  37. I what a fun concept for a post, especially for those who want to follow summer around the globe! Me personally I would want to follow fall or winter, but I understand people who love summer!

  38. An interesting post because you talk about enjoying summer in places where people don’t think about usually about summer. I want to go to the Gold Coast during summer in Australia.

  39. What a creative post! I love seasons but then I haven’t had a real, tough and long winter since I moved back to California from Alaska. The last time I was in Wyoming the weather had just turned frigid so I’d love to return to experience river rafting and balmy horse rides in the country. Bookmarking for later.

  40. I’m so pleased to say I’ve been to 5 on this list! I live half the year in Italy so I’m biased when I say we’ve very good summer weather. I’d also like to visit Colombia one day, it looks fantastic!

  41. It’s summer in Thailand now? That would be awesome, considering we’re living near Thailand. This list just shows that it’s always summer around the world. Hehehehe!

Personally, we would love to spend summer in Italy, Spain, Grece, and other countries around the Mediterranean Sea. We heard that summer there is really awesome.

  42. That’s a beautiful list. I love traveling. I would love to go to all the places you mentioned.

  43. When I think of endless summer, I also think of eternal spring… Antigua Guatemala and Medellin Colombia have temperatures in the high 70s all year round to create a beautiful climate to explore and enjoy what it has to offer.

  44. This is such a clever idea for a post. I recently moved from Colorado to Florida to enjoy “endless summer” for a few years. But then reading about August in Wyoming made me a little sentimental about being up there (I only lived 35-minutes south of that border) – especially now in fall, actually. The answer truly is to keep traveling whenever possible to keep enjoying whatever season you like wherever you can find it at the time. Hope to see more from your list…

    1. Luci, You sound like Darcee cause she is from Wyoming. Though I have to agree, that if you’re traveling all the time, you don’t have to really worry about what the weather is since you won’t be their permanently!

  45. This is an absolute wow list! As in all year round – I wish I have that luxury of getting to one place to another every month — hehe I always need to consider getting my furbabies along with travel plans.

  46. Thank you for an amazing post, what a great list of where to go places each month. I love the summer, but I don’t get much of that here in the UK.

    1. Yeah but I am glad the funky weather of the UK doesn’t keep the locals inside all the time. I loved our visit there but not sure if I could permanently live there without more sun and warmth.

  47. I would love to be in a summer place right now. While the Philippines doesn’t really get COLD and we still get a lot of sun from time to time, I hate the rainy season because it bring with it a lot of problems–flood, traffic, gloom.

This is a nice list. I will definitely keep these in mind when I plan a trip during our rainy season.

  48. This is such a great list and shows you how everywhere is different in this world I would never have thought India would be in January, this is nice to look into before any travel.
