Why A Road Trip Is The Best Way To Travel
Traditionally a road trip has been viewed as a form of travel that only hippies engage in or those who are living some kind of alternative lifestyle, but it’s really not about that anymore. In the past decade, road trips have, not only become a rather popular mainstream way to travel but are pretty much the new best way to travel. So, before you try to get rid of that classic “clunker” at an auto salvage yards near you, check out why road trips are the best way to travel and see how to ensure you have a great one.

You have more freedom on a Road trip:
When you take a road trip, you have far more freedom throughout your trip to go exactly where you want to go and when you want to go. There’s no airport security lines or any schedules to stick to, because roads and landmarks are still going to be there even if you’re 10 hours behind the schedule you had planned. When you go on a road trip, you can choose to visit as many places as you want, so there’s really no limit to the amount of freedom you have when compared to other traditional ways of traveling.
You get the full benefit of discovery on your trip:
Unlike when traveling the traditional way where you have to stand in line at an airport, and then sit on a plane for hours before you reach your destination which essentially causes you to lose valuable time from your trip, and then you need another chunk of time once you get there, you wouldn’t be blamed for feeling like you waste a good bit of your trip just on actually traveling to get there. With a road trip, the travel and the trip go hand in hand, and because you’re passing so many places on way, you really get the full benefit of your trip, and because you need to have no schedule, you’ll be able to stop and check out new places on the way.
Road Trips are far more relaxing:
Again, there’s pretty much nothing relaxing about standing in line at airports or even sitting on a plane itself, but if we travel by air, then it’s just pretty much a part of what we have to endure to get where we’re going. When traveling on a road trip, there’s none of this going on, so you simply just get in your car or RV and drive on your own schedule and at your own pace. You can stop and take in the sights whenever you feel like it.
As you can see, there are definitely some strong reasons as to why a road trip is the best way to travel, but how do you make sure it goes as smoothly as possible?
There are some things you should make sure you have in place before taking off on the open road to make sure things go well:
- Making sure your vehicle is up to the latest safety standards — check for chips in the windshield and go to Glass.net if you find any, ask a mechanic to service your engine, keep your tires at the right level, etc. If you don’t do these checks then you might end up breaking down in the middle of nowhere! Plus, you should always make sure that you have the correct insurance by visiting somewhere like State Farm. Not only will insurance protect you if you have an accident, but it is a legal requirement. You should also have additional insurance like travel insurance and accident coverage so that you have quality legal representation for the seriously injured should you need it.
- Things like medical emergencies are unlikely, but they can and do happen, so just being prepared for these will make things much easier on everyone.
- It’s also a good idea to create some kind of plan for your trip and make a list of the things you want to see, but don’t get too hung up on it because the whole point of a road trip is about having the freedom to not have to be stuck on a certain schedule all the time.
- Make sure you have enough supplies to take on your trip is also important. You will need to bring plenty of food, water, and even extra gas and a spare tire just in case you get stranded somewhere and can’t reach a gas station.
- If you’re traveling with children, then you’ll need to take some extra steps to make sure they’re entertained along the way, because, depending on how old they are, they may not appreciate the beautiful sights along the way, so to prevent them bugging you with questions every 5 minutes of “are we there yet?” then bringing along something like an iPad with their favorite movies and shows, some board games, and maybe even things like craft sets and coloring books will help keep them entertained throughout a long road trip, which in turn will ensure that you get to enjoy a more relaxing trip yourself.
So Let’s hit the open Road!
We hope these tips have helped you see just how great of a travel choice a road trip can be, whether you’re going alone, going with friends, or even with children. As with everything, some proper planning and organizing will make things that much easier when it comes to having the perfect road trip.
